BJP is victor in this 'Indo-Pak cricket match'

HYDERABAD: “The bypoll in Mahbubnagar is exciting like Indo-Pak cricket match,” BJP state president G Kishan Reddy said during his election campaigns. And, that’s how the the BJP scored over TRS and won with simple majority in the photo-finish.
The communal division between voters is said to be one of the main reasons for the victory of BJP candidate Yennam Srinivasa Reddy. Telangana sentiment, Srinivasa Reddy’s rapport with TRS cadre (he was with TRS before) and the ‘non-local’ factor of TRS candidate Syed Ibrahim also helped BJP get one Assembly seat in the Mahbubnagar Lok Sabha segment represented by TRS president K Chandrasekhara Rao.
Telangana sentiment was strong, but voters were split on communal lines, which benefited BJP. In a similar fight, BJP candidate Y Lakshminarayana won the 2010 bypolls from Nizamabad, crushing the then PCC chief D Srinivas.
“The victory in Mahbubnagar means voters have acknowledged BJP as a pro-Telangana force. As a national party, BJP created three new states. BJP alone can deliver Telangana state,” claimed BJP president Kishan Reddy.
It was also true that the BJP was consolidating its position in Telangana. Top BJP leaders LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj and others toured the region extensively and supported separate Telangana state. “Give us seats and take your state” was the slogan of BJP in 2009 elections.
Since then, the BJP put in concerted efforts like Kishan Reddy’s Palle Yatra and recent Telangana Poru Yatra. It also took a bold step advocating division of the state in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, which fetched support for the party to some extent in the Telangana region.

Antyodaya to be BJP’s poll plank

HYDERABAD: The BJP will go back to its basic political and economic philosophy propounded by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya with an aim to regain power in 2014 when the general election is due. The three-day fast organised by BJP secretary P Muralidhar Rao, which concluded here on Friday, was the beginning of implementing the Upadhyaya’s philosophy to woo artisans and weaker sections in the country.
BJP president Nitin Gadkari, who addressed the concluding meeting at fast camp, said: “Deendayal Upadhyaya said that the last man in the society too should get food, shelter and clothes. Then only can our dream to see a developed India be realised.”
Stressing the need for implementation of the principle of Antyodaya, which stands for eradication of poverty and provision of basic needs of every family, Gadkari said only Antyodaya could correct the current imbalances in the country.
By chanting the Antyodaya of Uapadhyaya, Gadkari also recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s words that development of the country was possible only with the development of villages.
“Gandhi wanted maximum production employing maximum number of persons. But Jawaharlal Nehru pressed for maximum production ignoring the employment aspect,” Gadkari said while rejecting the Nehruvian model of economy.
“I am congratulating Muralidhara Rao on undertaking a three-day fast for the betterment of weavers. This is just a trailer. The full movie will be released soon,” Gadkari said, while indicating that Upadhyaya’s philosophy would be the guiding force for the BJP.
“Do not make rounds to Delhi to get party tickets. BJP is not here to see a particular person as MP, PM or CM. It is here to bring about a change in society. Go to the poor and work for them. Then only will the party recognise you,” he told party leaders.
Asserting that the NDA would regain power in 2014, Gadkari wanted the people of state to choose between the UPA and the NDA.
“There are only two forces in national politics _ UPA and NDA. You decide whether you will support the corrupt Congress or dynamic BJP,” Gadkari said and alleged that the Congress had been looting the country and even Hyderabad was not spared.
Muralidhar Rao said that his fast for weavers was just a beginning and it would be continued in future to implement Deendayal’s Antyodaya. “BJP is dedicated to the welfare of weaker sections and artisans,” he added.
Sometime back, Gadkari had attended a programme organised by Muralidhar Rao in Visakhapatnam on fishermen. The current three-day fast for weavers was a success as a large number of weavers and others thronged the venue on the concluding day.
Several senior BJP leaders including Nirmala Sitaraman, Parliament member Balbir Punj, vice-president Purushottam Rupala, senior leaders Bandaru Dattatreya and K Laxman, state unit president G Kishan Reddy, Tamil Nadu unit president Ponnu Radhakrishnan, and Samata Party leader Jaya Jaitely were present.

BJP calls for non-Congress alliance in state

HYDERABAD: Senior BJP leader and Opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley today called upon the non-Congress parties in the state to rise to the occasion and support the BJP-led NDA.
Though he did not name any party, Jaitley's call was apparently to the main Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
At a symposium on 'Building a Nation - politics of fragmentation' here today, Jaitley said AP was the fastest growing state in the country. There was a crying need for a separate Telangana state. The 'paralysed' government could not take any decision on this. The projects were also slowing down in the state. There was also a need to root out the corrupt Congress at the Centre, he said, and called upon the non-Congress parties to come together to achieve these objectives.
Jaitley said the Third Front would not succeed in the future, as it would lose its nucleus after the West Bengal and Kerala elections. "Bipolar politics will emerge in the country and the NDA is the only alternative to the UPA," Jaitley said.
Ideological differences would not come in the way to work together, he said citing that the BJP had ideological differences with some parties in the NDA but the combine still worked in unity. "If there are no differences, there won't be separate parties at all," he analysed. (From Jaitley's reference to the Third Front experiment, analysts felt that it was a call given to the TDP.) The Congress' dynasty politics was a negation of democracy and meritocracy in politics, he said and criticised the Congress for adopting double standards on dynasty issue. "The Congress is encouraging dynasty at Delhi and opposing the same in Andhra Pradesh. One party cannot have two theories on the same subject.
Why not a dynasty in AP? There is a contradiction in Congress today," Jaitley said.
On the 2-G Spectrum row, Jaitley said it was not all about auditing or accounting problems. One should understand the dimensions of the scam and how the power brokers wanted Telecom Ministry for one particular party, he said. "Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has developed infrastructure to cover up all the scams," he alleged. On the recent statements by Rahul Gandhi on RSS and Narendra Modi, he said: "Ignorance is bliss." BJP senior leaders Bangaru Lakshman, M Venkaiah Naidu and state president G Kishan Reddy were among those present.
