HYDERABAD: The 14-month-long cold war between YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the Congress High Command has now turned into a direct war.
The cold war that started when Rosaiah, who was regarded by the Jagan group as an interim arrangement for chief ministership, began consolidating his position, has reached a flash point with the naming of N Kiran Kumar Reddy as his successor dashing the hopes of the Jagan camp to see their leader in the chief minister’s post.
It all began on September 2, 2009 immediately after the death of then chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy in a chopper mishap. Initially, the Congress leaders felt that there would be a son rise in the State politics. YSR’s son Jagan Mohan Reddy too moved the pawns and collected the signatures of around 150 Congress MLAs in his favour. But the high command thought otherwise. Septuagenarian K Rosaiah was made successor to Rajasekhara Reddy.
However, the Jagan camp did not cooperate with Rosaiah with the view that he was just a stop-gap arrangement and would be replaced, sooner than later, by Jagan. However, they suffered a setback as Rosaiah, with the help of high command, tried to consolidate his position.
Jagan then launched his ‘Odarpu Yatra’, a tour to console the kin of those who either committed suicide or died of shock after the tragic demise of Rajasekhara Reddy. He began with West Godavari in April and then toured Khammam till which time the leaderhsip did not appear to mind his yatra. But later, it began taking a serious note of his yatra and tried to apply brakes. Jagan, however, continued the tour claiming it was his personal engagement and that it was his primary duty to console the victims, as the son of the departed leader.
With this line, Jagan, his mother Vijayamma and other family members couldn’t impress AICC president Sonia Gandhi. The high command said a curt ‘no’ to the consolation tour.
A defiant Jagan continued the tour and, after three legs, generated heat by criticising the government for the poor state of affairs. By humiliating Rosaiah and his government, he indirectly attacked the high command.
The high command’s move to hijack the agenda of Jagan by declaring that the party itself will pay solatium to those who died after YSR’s demise failed to check Jagan’s surge.
Since then the high command tried to suffocate the young leader to make him resign and go on his own while Jagan waited for the high command to take the first step and oust him so that he could gain public sympathy.
In the mean time, the Congress high command decided to replace Rosaiah with a young leader to check Jagan.
At this point, the Jagan camp boycotted the 125th anniversary celebrations of Congress in the state. Further, Jagan’s Sakshi TV telecast a stinker on Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
Though the high command viewed it seriously it did not call any explanation from Jagan. It simply made N Kiran Kumar Reddy as the chief minister. Rubbing salt into his wounds, the high command tried to lure his uncle YS Vivekananda Reddy with a cabinet berth. Vivekananda Reddy volunteered to mediate between high command and Jagan. But Jagan camp felt that it was nothing but an effort to divide the YSR family.
With the high command’s political games, Jagan felt suffocated further and resigned on his own.
Though Congress seniors aver that Jagan could do little damage to the party, it remains to be seen whether the Congress has won or lost the game.

CONG IS THE EVENTUAL LOOSER. THE SO CALLED CONG HIGH COMMAND PLAYED WITH S.M.KRISHNA OF KARNATAKA A FEW YEARS AGO, THEY LOST TO 2ND OR 3RD PLACE IN THE STATE. CONG LOST TAMIL NADU OVER 40 YEARS AGO. AP WAS THEIR ONLY BASTIN IN THE SOUTH. EVEN THAT THEY LOST FOR NAIDU FOR 2 TERMS OR SO. IT WAS YSR WHO SINGLE HANDEDLY BROUGHT THE CONG IN AP BACK TO POWER AND ALSO ENABLE UPA 1 AND UPA 2 GOVT. IN DELHI. IF CONG SPLITS IN AP, WHICH IS A FOREGONE CONCLUSION, THEY WILL NEVE REGAIN IN HE FUTURE TO BE A SINGLE PARTY ABLE TO FORM GOVT IN AP. IF JAGAN PLAYS HIS FATHER'S POLITICAL CARDS AND MONEY CAREFULLY, THE STATE GAME IS BETWEEN JAGAN AND NAIDU. PERHAPS CONG AND CHIRANJEEVI PLAYING MINOR ROLE SUPPORTING ONE OR THE OTHER.

Telugus must wake up. Look at Tamil Nadu. The Delhi guys have to listen what Karunanidhi says. DMK and ADMK completely wiped out Cong from the State. Even Yediyurappa of BJP from Karnataka outsmarted the Delhi BJP jokers such as Sushma, Jaitley, Advani, etc. Those Jokers in Delhi (Manmohan, Advani, Gujral all born in Pakistan, Sonia in Italy, etc.) trying to dictate the sons of the soil that too holding power due to them. If Indira's death qualifies Rajiv to become PM immediately (even by passing senior most Pranab Mukherjee) why not YSR's death enable Jagan to be CM of the state? Telegu brothers and sisters get rid the so called northern parties (who claim national parties) and vote for your local leaders such as Karunanidhi, Jaya, DeveGowda, Naidu, Yediruppa, and Jagan Mohan. LET THE JOKERS FROM DELHI NO LONGER RULE YOU OR EVEN DIVIDE YOUR STATE IN TO 2 OR 3 SMALL ONES!!!

Internal fights in a party such as this based on ambition, greed and especially EGO will eventually lead to a split of the party. Regardless of the way the popular vote will be split between Congress and Jaganmohan, they both will be losers and TDP and Chandrababu Naidu will be the winners at the end of the day. If the sole purpose of Jaganmohan is to teach a lesson to the congress leadership, he will definitely accomplish that as there is no other charismatic Andhra Pradesh Congress leader at least at present. This won't do any good for his ambition.

I was a avid supporter of congress and a great admirer of late YSR....i feel anguished seeing the sorry state of affairs in the state congress and feel that this will be the last congress government in the state...congress has surely lost the game and jagan is going to come out strong, people do love YSR and feel that congress has betrayed the state people by ill-treating his son...Bye..Bye congress

Definitely Jagan is the loser. AP people are winners. We should give full credit to congress high command for not allowing money suckers like Jagan to take CM. Everyone knows how many thousands of crores of money these Y.Samuel Rajashekar Reddy have made after coming to power. There is not piece of land left in Hyderabad. Thousands of acres of land to Jagan in Nellore Krishnapattanam port area. Thousands of acres of land to Jagan in Vijag and Cuddapha. Thousands of acres of land to Jagan in Bangalore Prime international airport area.
