HYDERABAD: Realisation dawning slowly on them that the Centre may announce grant of a separate Telangna state `at any moment’, Telugu Desam leaders from Andhra-Rayalaseema are now making a last-ditch effort to create a rift within the Congress-led UPA Government.

``The Centre may announce the formation of Telangana at any moment,’’ said a TDP leader from Rayalaseema region after the Andhra and Rayalaseema leaders met at NTR Bhavan today.

Coming to know that some allies of the Congress like Sharad Pawar of NCP, Mamata Benejree of Trinamool Congress and Dayanadhi Maran of DMK are opposing creation of smaller States, they have decided to meet them. The leaders will camp in Delhi on February 3 and 4 and meet Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and leaders of all UPA partners in a bid to convey their strong feelings to members of the Union Cabinet.

``Any decision on Telangana will have to be approved by the Union Cabinet. The above-mentioned UPA partners may oppose granting statehood to Telangana at a Cabinet meeting to be convened for the purpose of approval,’’ hoped a TDP leader.

The Andhra leaders will explain to the UPA partners that once Telangana is carved out Maoists will dominate the new state. They are also hopeful that the prime minister will oppose formation of separate Telangana in the wake of reports that the China is trying to use Nepal as its base to wage a war against the country and the reports that China even hacked the PMO’s website. As the Maoists are trying to build a `Red corridor’ across the country fron Nepal down to Srikakulam and Orissa, they are sure to regroup and re-emerge on the scene in a separate Telangana, the Andhra leaders say and are likely to place their viewpoint strongly before the Union Government and the Cabinet ministers belonging to different regional parties.

Briefing reporters on their deliberations here today, TDP leaders said that they would continue their agitation for United Andhra and support all the agitational programmes launched by teacher and student JACs in the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.

They also declared their support for the week-long agitational porgrammes announced by the political JAC in Anantapur yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Telangana TDP MLAs who met at the TDLP office, welcomed today’s statement made by the Union home minister. However, they wanted a a timeframe fixed for the proposed committee.

Telangana should be carved out without any further delay, said TDP leader N Janardhan Reddy.
