The Sivaramakrishnan committee, formed by the Centre to identify the
new capital for the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh will undertake a
field visit in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.
The five-member committee arrived in Visakhapatnam on Friday night. Members met the district collector and other local officials on Friday night at the government guest house. The committee will have a detailed meeting with officials on Saturday to have firsthand information on Visakhapatnam, and the land and facilities available in the port city.
Other members of the committee, headed by K Sivaramakrishnan, are Rathin Roy, Aromar Revi, Jagan Shah and KT Ravindran. The committee will visit Rajahmundry, Vijaywada and Guntur in the next three days. They will study the facilities, land and suitability of the places for deciding the capital location.
In the next round, the committee will visit Kurnool, Kadapa and Nellore in the last week of June or in the first week of July.
GANDHINAGAR MODEL
Officials in Hyderabad said it requires around Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 2,000 crore to provide infrastructure for the new capital city of residuary AP. Sources said most probably, the new capital city may be developed on the model of Gandhinagar in Gujarat. Gandhinagar master plan was prepared for the development of a balanced and healthy community, socially as well as economically, as its central theme. The living areas, work areas and the recreational areas have been inter-related in the master plan.
